After rain forced this rounds two day games into one day games, it was imperative that the all teams continued their hot run of form.

1ST XI v Knox Gardens

The 1’s traveled to Knox Gardens in a big game for the boys. Entering the round 5-0 and on top, a win would cement top spot. After being asked to bowl, we got off to the perfect start with Marcus Baxter picking up the early wicket of Peter Dunlop. With restrictive bowling being the order of the day, the second wicket fell on 18 and then with the score 62, Scott Vozzo went full horizontal to get the big wicket of Jarrod Butcher. From there, Knox Gardens was never able to establish a damaging partnership and ended their 40 overs at 9/157.

With a fast outfield and a red hot batting line-up, it was Blake Walter and Scott Vozzo who got together after an early wicket to establish a match winning partnership of 95. Vozzo was dismissed for a 56 and Joel Robertson joined Blake to see the boys home in convincing fashion with eight overs to spare. Blake finished 59* and Joel Robertson 38*.

The win sees the boys two games clear atop the ladder and a great percentage.

2ND XI v Lysterfield

The 2’s played Lystefield at home and much like the 1’s, were looking to stay undefeated. After winning the toss and electing to bowl, we got off to a slow start. Some good bowling unrewarded and good shot making saw Lysterfield move to 78 before we got the break through via Jason Fay. Some tight bowling put the breaks on Lysterfield and saw us pick up regular wickets. In the end, Lysterfield set us 188 for victory.

As has been the case for most of the season, Greg Latham got us off to a flying start with the support of Sean Ewart. Greg punished some loose bowling and made 55. From there, it was a case of chasing down the remaining runs and all batsmen contributed to see us end up 5/189 with two overs remaining.

The win cemented our spot on top of the ladder with two games to go before Christmas.

3RD XI v Knoxfield

With the season at 2-2, this round was a big game was for 3rd’s, hoping to jump back into the four. After winning the toss and batting, the innings got off to a rough start with a wicket falling with the score on 1. A partnership was needed and the second wicket saw the score move to 47 before David Wright was controversially given out. After losing a further two quick wickets a partnership was needed. Nathan Freeling joined youngster Lachlan Saunders and put on 73 before Lachlan fell for a brilliant 60. Some smart batting at the end saw the boys post 7/191 with Nathan finishing 59*.

Wickets were the order of the day and despite picking up wickets on a regular basis, the boys were unable to defend the 191 and went down by four wickets.

The loss sees the boys slip to sixth but well and truly in the hunt for finals with a couple of wins.

4TH XI v Knoxfield

After four wins to start the season, the team was looking to stay undefeated with a win against Knoxfield. After losing the toss and being sent in, the team got off to a slow start due to some good bowling. Despite the slow start, wickets in hand would help. Opening the batting, Jai Armstrong produced a career best 64 and was well supported by Dylan Stocker’s 43.

Defending 151, it was always going to be tough and it proved that way, with Knoxfield getting the win by 9 wickets.

The club is in a great position in all grades and we hope to continue our form in a big round over the next two weeks.
