The Basin travelled to Belgrave for the T20 round. Both the 1’s and 2’s were undefeated and looked to continue their undefeated start to the year.
In the first game of the day, the second XI lost the toss and were asked to bowl. After some tight bowling, Jason Fay picked up the first wicket of the day, with 14 year old Lachlan Saunders taking the catch at mid on.
The pressure started to take its toll on the Belgrave players, with wickets falling at a consistent rate. Liam Walter bowled his four overs straight and took 3/16 and wily old veteran and inspirational captain Ben Carnell taking 3/14.
With a total of 96 to chase down, there was little trouble as Greg Latham continued his rich vein of form finishing on 51 not out and Joel Clarke 28 not out.
With one win down, it was time for the first XI to make it a double victory.
After being sent in to bat, we got off to a slow start and lost RS with the score on four. However with Blake Walter in career best form and Scott Vozzo at the crease, the scoring picked up and saw us lose our second wicket at 50.
From there, quick fire innings from Tinna and Jake Sherriff saw us in a good position to launch and that we did. Joel Robertson came in and hit 50 from just 19 balls to see us through to 6/186
With a bowling attack that has been in great form this year, Belgrave were on the back foot from the start and never recovered. Josh Lee took 2/5, Blake Walter 2/14 and in the end, Belgrave could only manage 7/87 from their 20 overs.
The club would like to thank Belgrave for their hospitality.
Round 5 sees the 1’s and 2’s take on Footballers, with Ladies Day on the 17th.
