Round 5
This round saw the 1’s and 2’s take on Footballers, the 3’s play Upwey and the 4’s play Rowville
1st XI
The 1’s played at home against Footballers. Coming into the round undefeated, this was the first time two day match of the season. Winning the toss and electing to bat, the boys got off to a solid start through Tom Edwards and Daniel Rundle. With the score on 44, we lost Tom for 13. This brought Blake Walter to the crease and with RS back to his best, they put on 82 before RS was dismissed for 59. Just two runs later, Blake was out for 49 with the score 3/128. Joel Robertson and Jayden Turcinovic steadied the flow of wickets and pushed the score to 207 before Jayden was out for a well made 56.
From there, it was Scott Vozzo who saw us through and batted smartly for 63*. Joel was dismissed 25 and Jake Sherriff made a quick fire 26. After 80 overs, we finished 8/333
Saturday saw a perfect day for bowling and it proved to be. Jake Sherriff took three early wickets to leave Footballers 3/12 and out of the game. All the bowlers bowled well. Josh Lee was tireless finishing with 3/60 from 20 overs including six maidens.
After five rounds, the 1’s are undefeated and sitting on top of the ladder.
2nd XI
The 2’s travelled to Footballers hoping to keep their unbeaten start to the season in tact. After losing the toss and being sent in to bat, things didn’t start well, losing Greg third ball of the day and Pochy for 9 leaving us at 2/21. Ben Carnell and Sean Ewart steadied things and saw us get to 61 before we lost Sean for a well made 30. That brought Leigh Cook to the crease and in great form, got the scoreboard ticking over, including taking 21 from one over. However he fell just before tea for 57 with the score on 4/142.
After tea, Joel and Ben ticked things over and forced Footballers onto the back-foot. Joel was dismissed for a well compiled 49 with he and Ben putting on a 85 for the fifth wicket. From there, cameos from the rest of the order saw us post 9/313 from our 80 overs. This was all thanks to Ben’s outstanding 86 after coming in at 2/21.
With the team missing its three main bowlers, it was up to the future of the club to help defend the total. After a slow start and some good batting from Footballers, Jason Fay got the much needed breakthrough with the score on 95. From there, Ben Carnell took three quick wickets, one on the stroke of teas and two immediately after. From there, it was Liam Walter and Mitch Wallace who stood tall. Both took three wickets, but it was their ability to bowl tight lines and stay unfazed as Footballers went about their run chase.
Liam Walter finished with 3/43 from 22 overs and Mitch Wallace 3/40 from 16.3 overs. Having dismissed Footballers for 194. the 2’s stay undefeated and top of the ladder.
